The Calais Archive Tagger plugin automatically goes through your archives and tags every post you’ve written. The plugin uses the Open Calais API to perform semantic analysis of your post text and suggest tags. If a post already contains a suggested tag, that tag isn’t added, but other new tags found are. It takes about 5 minutes to tag 200 posts.
This plugin requires PHP 5 and the cURL library (both of which are available on most web hosts).
Also see WP Calais Auto Tagger for suggesting tags as you write new posts.

If your blog is over a year or two old, you may have noticed the list of archive pages is getting unwieldy.
This plugin is a widget that compresses the size of the arcgives list to two lines per year (three if the lines are narrow) rather than one line per per month.

This plugin provides you with a template tag for your archives page, which presents navigating the archives in a unique way. It has a row for each year with posts, and every month in that year with posts has a link to the month. It is also built to be easy to style with CSS, and everything is semantic and has a CSS class.
The idea and code was based on the original Smart Archives plugin by Justin Blanton. I just found that its output wasn’t to my liking, and I enhanced it a bit and recoded portions.

The Flexo Archives Widget displays your archives as a list of years that expands when clicked (thanks to some JavaScript magic) to show the months with posts. You also have the option of displaying the number of posts in each month.

The AWSOM Archive (formerly called AWSOM Drop Down Archive) is a plugin designed to add a Drop Down or other type of archive selector on your Index and individual Posts pages. This plugin by default requires no theme editing to work and appears right after activating your plugin. It makes it easy for your readers to immediately select a new post to view. This is especially good for Webcomic or Art sites and replicates the archive that is on the Megatokyo.com website. If you want a more customized archive you may enter custom options for CSS, name, archive parameters, and add custom locations all from the admin options area. The newest version of the plugin now allows you to place the archive in a post or page by using the code %%awsomarchive%%, so now you can place the archive anywhere you want. Plugin Now Features Full XHTML compliance.

The archives within WordPress are pretty limited in a sense that they do not offer much configuration beyond what they do. Date based will be date based, like category based archives will only display categories. This plugin mitigates the issue by giving date based archives the ability to list content by categories as well.
This is done via modification of the rewrite rules to allow for the ability to have permalinks like http://yourblog.com/2008/in-blog/. This basically is a date based archive that shows only entries from the “blog” category.
This plugin can also work without the usage of rewrite rules. It currently supports date based archives for years and months.
